Internationalisation

Together, out into the world and welcoming the world to us

South Savo also has international appeal. The region is home to more than 6,000 foreign residents representing over 110 nationalities. An increasing number of businesses, particularly in the service sector, employ people from abroad. English is used as the working language, either exclusively or alongside other languages.

The region’s vocational education institutions and higher education institutions offer teaching and degree programmes in English. International students come here to study, but education is also an export product.

Internationalisation is seen as a key factor in South Savo’s development and as an enabler of vitality, growth and competitiveness. The Regional Council of South Savo has drawn up an internationalisation plan for the region. The regional vision is: “Together, out into the world and welcoming the world to us.”
