Development of the food sector

Development

Development activities are pursued actively across many sectors in South Savo. Most companies in the region are small, which limits their capacity to invest in research, development and innovation (RDI). Development activities are therefore mainly led by higher education institutions and research institutes. Key actors in development projects include South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, the University of Helsinki Ruralia Institute and the Natural Resources Institute Finland.

Food Sector Development

A development programme for 2021–2027 has been drawn up to support the development of South Savo’s food sector. The programme’s vision is a responsible, successful and resilient food sector in South Savo. Development measures are grouped into five themes: skills and competence; food communication and food education; added value from nature; resilience and responsibility; and new operating models. The programme has been implemented through nearly 90 regional, national and international projects.

Key vocational education providers, research institutes, an advisory organisation and business development organisations in the region contribute to the development of South Savo’s food sector. These key actors in the South Savo food cluster also form the cluster’s network of service providers.
